It’s the middle of 2019, and no, this year has not been much fun so far… However, it dawned on me today that fun is not passive! My motto in my 20s was ‘don’t budget, earn more’ 📸. I seem to have forgotten that ethos – pretty much reversing it to ‘don’t earn, budget more’!
Life is ultimately a self fulfilling prophesy, and what you believe will happen generally happens. So I’m going back to my original ethos, only changing it to apply to all the good things. Of course money is necessary as a facilitator… you also need a vision of the world as you want it to be, and that is not constrained by anything!
I reflect alot on the motivation of people, mainly other people, and love the idea of influencing behaviour through games. The problem is I have forgotten how to play of late. I have focused too much on reading the motivation of others and forgotten to remember my own. Big mistake 🤣.
The loyalty a leader inspires and the engagement of teams, friends and family depends on their enjoyment. Their enjoyment is influenced by the people around them. If the people around them are me, recently somewhat miserable, then others will respond with misery.
So inspired by ‘Screw Work, Let’s Play‘ by John Williams and having routinely flaked on many friends in recent weeks, that’s exactly what I’m going to do!
1. Initiate by opening with a smile and having a chat!
2. Create momentum by actually staying in the room.
And generally being a person I would want to be with, as of late I just haven’t been. Apologies all.
See you soon.
